Government bogs down progress

There’s no end to the ways that the policies of tax-and-spend politicians bog down economic progress.

When tax-and-spenders aren’t simply banning or taxing businesses they don’t like, they slow them to a crawl with a seemingly-endless maze of red tape.

According to the Government Accountability Office, the average time it takes for the government to process the certification of an interstate natural gas pipeline is 558 days.

Even worse, it can take over a decade just to collect all the necessary permits for a new mining project — which ties the U.S. with Papa New Guinea for dead last out of all major mining countries.

Projects such as natural gas pipelines create jobs and slash energy costs.

And people working on them, investing in them, and making other plans based on them need to know they can count on development progressing in a timely fashion.

Having to wait for years without even knowing when they’ll be able to start work throws a massive wrench into many plans, and discourages others from even trying.

This is more than politicians just having a couple of mistaken economic ideas –- they’re obsessed with controlling every aspect of our economy. And then footing taxpayers with the bill.

The fact that slowing economic activity to a crawl is bad for prosperity is just common sense –- something all too rare in Washington these days.
